I also did the parting shots at the back of Where Hong Kong magazines.

Vinson Lam streetalk

This goy was a focking legend

Kickin' it in Macau... or Macao?

Should be MACAO though... i don't like using the anglicised term for anything.

What a real tiring trip though, humidity was terrible. It was probably my last assignment with Asia City so luckily Billy was able to get this organised for us. The next issue of Where is about spas and what not. So I even got a free Thai massage at M Spa in the lucious Westin hotel. I tell ya, whew, I really need that. I could feel all my joints loosening up after some serious stress over the past few weeks. The Hyatt looked like a sleazy motel compared to it. The Mandarin Oriental was a real looker too; had all the famous retailers in its lobby.

Casinos were crazy... they're busy 24/7. I can see how people become addicted to this stuff. It's such a communal culture, that and the Chinese just love to gamble. We visited the mighty Sands casino and the Greek Mythology. The Greek place was well cheesy... they even had Russians as their star attraction. I even practiced a little Russian on the waitresses... they were either amusely surprised or just plain offended.

So back in our 'ol SAR without a paddle, I'm gonna fuck around for a week or so finishing up on my final project for Unisoft and maybe visit the outlying islands... don't wanna go too far in case I miss some call backs!

Peace

And they're off...

Spent a good chunk of the weekend typing up CV's, cover letters, burning DVD's and packaging for my quest for a new job. I've got eight packages to send off to prosepective employers, two HK Live videos for local bands Qiu Hong and Elf Fatima (couldn't find The Darlings) and two more for Kevin So and Vudoo Soul in the States.
Guess I just got to sit through the last week of the internship and wait for news. If any!
Just heard my Dad and Grandma are coming here in a few weeks. Apparently there's this ceremony cum mass for the villagers of Chek Ging (?), even Donald Tsang will be there!

HK Magazine internship ending

Well it's been a fun 9 weeks (with one more to go)- full of ups and, er, downs.
Met some fun and good-natured people to work with, especially so cos i haven't been in an english-speaking environment on a regular basis since I left home.
By far Adam White (many readers for the past 6 or so issues will know him well at this stage) has surely benefited and is now a temporary staff writer! Sucks with the reduced pay though, as if it's not low enough for a permanent writer.
As for me, the only thing I benefited from the internship is the decision to not go ahead with my Masters course later this year. Heh and i'm not sure if that's still a good decision considering i'm still frantically looking for work. I've written one feature to which was drastically altered- a bad experience for a first timer like me, but then again it was my fault for not being there the next day due to my FUCKING skin problem... But I had fun doing all the crazy Streettalks as i've seem to acquired a particular trademark.
Honestly i'm not too worried about HK not hiring me. During the course of the internship I felt I might'nt be up for the task as staff writer. The only things I do proficiently are Streettalks and Last Week in Realities. I can't read too much Chinese so that's a disadvantage for them. It'd be cool if I was a part photographer and part everything else- Where, List, HK... to put me solely on HK wouldn't be wise. But anywho I've already started looking for other avenues of work. But i've had such a strain of bad luck lately... not to mention my lingering skin condition.
So why don't I post up the miniscule things I've done so far? I won't bother putting up the little things like reviews and insignificant pictures. Although our Food editor tells me my photos for their pizza tasting competition were some of the best dining pics we've had... too bad the story was shelved. Heh, how's that for you.
But anyway check out the pics i've taken if you're interested: My photo blog

Mong Kok on a Sunday

Strolled thru Mong Kok to get some blank DVD's for my updated portfolio. With 2 weeks left of my internship I need to start posting out CV's and portfolios to prospective employers.
So today was quite a cornucopia of civil action in Mong Kok: mini exhibitions on domestic violence, Falun Gong persecution, Better living campaign (?) and some protest against real estate development in Central.

One sure way of attracting attention to a political cause is giving out freebies. Unfortunately this crowd of sheep were queing for a free online PC game. Somehow I think those 'aul ones just queued up for the sake of it!

You can see my WTO docu at iFilm
This'll probably be the last time I do any thing for it as I'm eager to get started on new projects. Goodbye WTO!

'Conventional Hall' exhibition

After a whirlwind editing blitz, I finally completed my WTO documentary in 3 days. Luckily my arts editor sent me on an interview errand with a photographer/film maker who's hosting and exhibiting his work at the 'Convention Hall' exhibition at the Shanghai Street Artspace. The exhib allows ordinary people to showcase their films and photography. Of course i didn't relinquish the chance to show off some of my stuff. Some of the were impressed that they might ask me to come back to join their panel discussion... gotta think of interesting quotes to say!
What a spot of bad luck recently though, I got to the Shenzhen border when I realised my ID card is missing. After ploughing through my house I'm gonna report it missing to the cops. Oh yeah and my phone fell down the poxy toilet. It's well beyond use now!
